N&W Caboose, Norfolk & Western RR

N&W Caboose, Norfolk & Western RR

This cupola caboose was donated to the Old Smoky Railroad Museum in 1995. It’s style, the cupola or standard caboose, is an example of the most common caboose style used on American railroads. It has a small windowed projection on the roof called the cupola. The crew sat in elevated seated on either side to monitor the train. The cupola caboose was usually the choice of the N&W RR because of the narrow side clearances in the mountains. This caboose was last run in revenue service in the midwest.
